Leaving Honolulu was not as easy as arriving! We started off our day with the van carrying our equiptment not starting!!! My instincts weren't triggered for worry mode and before you know it Frank and company had that motor turning over!!! With video being taped and digital cameras snapping - we all got our last minute shots of Honolulu before we left... a much too quick overnight stay, but we had our sights on Kwajalein now... Atleast - if we can get all of our gear on board! It was a process - let's just say that - and once again Frank was on point! Two cell phones running and just getting it done! Aloha airlines - just wasn't having our vouchers to haul all of our gear - but in the end - all was well on the Island and The Escovedo Project had lift off!
Cotton Candy Clouds
Being the singer songwriter that I am - you just have to understand that eventually inspiration would kick in and I wrote my first new song on the road... Luckily I was given a choice and was happy to get a window seat with a view!!! I'd say about 2 hours into the flight with a Michael Franks CD playing and a view to die for - my brain started turning words... So - let's just see what happens when I sit down with Javier and we get some arrangement going - can't wait!
Laws of Attraction
As I was attracted to Mother nature and the big blue beneath us, we ate either broiled chicken or beef with mashed potatoes, chit chatted, joked and watched Laws of Attraction with Pierce Brosnan and this hot actress - beautful red head - that her name slips my mind right now... It was kinda funny to watch - but even funnier after the movie ended was when Larry said how hey felt totally Gay after seeing it!!! I couldn't stop laughing at that one!
Day 2 is really Day 3!!!
Now kids - put your thinking caps on here!!! We left Honolulu at 1:10 p.m. on a Thursady afternoon for a 5 hour flight that landed us in Kwajalein at 4:30 p.m., but!!! it is Friday here!!! You see - we crossed over into a different time zone that likes to play games with our senses!!! Needless to say - we touched down and was it hot and humid! Kwaj - as they say is located right on or near the equator... It was instant humidity and sweat, but it felt right! We went through the formalities of providing our work orders and watched as dogs sniffed our luggage and followed some simple rules to get our badges... After organizing our squad we were met by Allison Lord and Torrey Landers, our hosts on the island that gave us a tour of the island and even showed us the outdoor stage being built on Emon Beach for our 1st show which I'm really looking forward to... Due to the weather and possible rain we also saw plan B - a club called Yckwe Yuk that also provides a stage and of course would be indoors... For those of you that don't know exaclty where we are right now... Kwajalein is an island in a cluster of islands called The Marshall Islands and the natives here are Marshallese... I was told that Emon means "good" and Yuckwe Yuk is translated into "hello" and "i love you". Into the evening Allison had a briefing with us regarding our itinerary and we munched down on some pizza... The group had a meeting next and then we were free to roam! I decided I wanted to start off right and my primal voice was telling me to go running... Gary joined me and we did a couple of miles and ended up at the local soccer field to catch the last few seconds of a soccer match of which our host Allison's team won!!! A great way to end the night was meeting the guys at Yuckwe Yuk for some drinks, pool and chatting it up with the locals... sweet dreams
